Throwback to Burney Falls

THROWBACK to 2014: Burney Falls

This picture of Burney Falls taken at McArthur-Burney State Park in Northern California is still one of my favorites.

Among the prettiest waterfalls I’ve ever seen, this constant flowing stream of water reminds me to focus on those blessings!

Hiking up to Vernal Falls

Beginning of the hike to Vernal Falls

Yosemite National Park is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.

Plus, it is a hiker’s paradise with all of the numerous trails leading through breath-taking scenery.

This small picture gallery reflects a hike that my husband, Dan, and I took to Vernal Falls in November 2008.  It is the first waterfall on the famous Half Dome Trail.

Dan climbed to the top of Half Dome many years ago, but I was not feeling that adventurous.  I did, however, want to experience part of the trail, so we decided to visit Vernal Falls.

The picture in the top left was taken from Glacier Point Overlook in May 2008, just months before our hike.

This vantage point provides a great panoramic view of the Half Dome hike. To the left is Half Dome. The lower falls are Vernal Falls and the upper falls are Nevada Falls.  From this height, one can also see far back into the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.

The rest of the photos are of our climb to Vernal Falls. The scenery is stunning all along the way.

The hike itself was only two and a half miles round trip, but it was all uphill. We gained 1000 feet in elevation in the one and a quarter mile climb.

Close to the falls were some steep, rocky steps. The mist from the falls made them very slippery and wet.

The falls themselves were spectacular! Enjoy the pictures!

Because of the beauty all around me that day, I was reminded of the first two verses of an old hymn:

“For the beauty of the earth,

For the glory of the skies,

For the love which from our birth

Over and around us lies;

For the wonder of each hour

Of the day and of the night,

Hill and vale and tree and flower,

Sun and moon and stars of light:

Lord of all, to thee we raise

This our hymn of grateful praise.”
